BERNHARD GÜNTER, nasce em Neuwind, Alemanha, em 1957. Começa a tocar bateria aos 12; muda para a guitarra eléctrica aos 17. Em 1980 muda-se para Paris; assiste a palestras de Pierre Boulez no IRCAM e no Collége de France e trabalha nas bibliotecas do IRCAM e do Centre Pompidou, estudando técnicas de composição contemporânea. Providencia a música para o Ensemble Choreographique de Vitry por várias vezes. Regressa à Alemanha em 1986. Em 1987 começa a criar música utilizando o computador. Após quarto anos de preparação e um ano de trabalho edita o seu influente primeiro CD “Un Peu de Neige Salie” (listado na revista Wire como um dos ’Top 100 Albums that set the World on Fire’). Em 1995 funda a sua própria editora, a Trente Oiseaux. Desde então tem lançando um número significativo de CDs e colaborado em compilações, tanto na Trente Oiseaux como noutras editoras.
Já tocou por todo o globo inúmeras vezes. A sua música é tocada com frequência no Futura Festival de Musique Acousmatique em Crest, França; e um dos seus trabalhos recebeu uma menção honrosa nos Prix Ars Electronica de 1999. Em 2002 apresentou uma instalação sonora para oito canais na Diapason Gallery em Nova Iorque. Faz parte dos +minus com Graham Halliwell e Mark Wastell: o trio está agora a lançar o seu terceiro CD e já tocou conjuntamente por várias vezes. Editou recentemente um CD colaborativo com Heribert Friedl (Áustria) que será seguido por um segundo em 2006. Está neste momento a preparar projectos colaborativos com Chrys Brian (Canadá), Michael Vorfeld (Alemanha) e Steve Roden (EUA).
MARK WASTELL está activo na música contemporânea desde 1995. Os seus primeiros concertos foram com o trio IST (com Simon H. Fell e Rhodri Davies) e Chris Burn’s Ensemble. Actualmente é membro de vários grupos incluindo The Sealed Knot (com Rhodri Davies e Burkhard Beins), +minus (com Graham Halliwell e Bernhard Günter), Sakada (com Mattin e Eddie Prévost), The Scotch of St. James (com Tim Barnes), Open (com Phil Durrant e Matt Davis) e Broken Consort (com Rhodri Davies). Já colaborou com numerosos músicos em todo o mundo incluindo Otomo Yoshihide, John Tilbury, Lasse Marhaug, Toshimaru Nakamura, John Zorn, Sachiko M, Keith Rowe, Evan Parker, Annette Krebs, Taku Sugimoto, David Toop e Derek Bailey. Tocou nos principais festivais mundiais e percorreu extensivamente o Reino Unido, Europa, América e Extremo Oriente. As suas gravações atingem 45 lançamentos em várias editoras incluindo Confront (Reino Unido), Erstwhile (EUA), Trente Oiseaux (Alemanha), Incus (Reino Unido), Meniscus (EUA), Hibari (Japão), Absinth (Alemanha), Rossbin (Itália), w.m.o/r (Espanha) and Absurd (Grécia).
GRAHAM HALLIWELL concentra a sua atenção no saxofone, no saxofone amplificado e no feedback do saxofone. Já gravou e tocou com músicos tão diversos como as Rhodri Davies, Matt Davis, Mark Wastell, Taku Unami, Bernhard Günter, Richard Chartier, Eddie Prévost, Simon Fell eSimon Vincent. Actualmente faz parte dos +minus (com Bernhard Günter e Mark Wastell), VHF (com Simon H. Fell e Simon Vincent) e de um novo trio com Eddie Prévost e Mark Wastell.
As suas principais influências são a música e a escrita de Morton Feldman, a experimentação de Alvin Lucier, Pierre Schaeffer e Eliane Radigue e a arte visual dos Expressionistas Abstractos americanos.
Editou recentemente o álbum Recorded Delivery na editora Confront, incluindo colaborações com Rhodri Davies, Steve Roden e Mark Wastell explorando a natureza dos tons de interferência a partir da improvisação, colagem e overdubbing. Projectos correntes de gravação incluem novo material com os +minus e convidados (Steve Roden, Clive Bell e Toshimaru Nakamura). O novo álbum de VHF será editado este Outono pela editora L’innomable.
