JOHN TILBURY

 

John Tilbury was born in 1936 and studied piano at the Royal College of Music in London and at the Warsaw Univeristy in Poland, soon focusing on contemporary composition. He is internationaly renowned as the premium interpreter of Morton Feldman's compositions, but also acclaimed for interpretations of (and studies on) John Cage, Cornelius Cardew, Christian Wolff, Terry Riley, Earl Brown and Michael Parsons. Probably the most famous piano improvisor of today's international improvisation scene, especially for his delicate solo improvisations, but mainly for his work with the group AMM (which he joined in 1980). As a composer he has writen several pieces, performed frequently around the world by himself or other performers.
