Shh.. Camille’ is the debut release by young East London duo
Nos Phillipé (Jonathan
Webb and Robert Hopps). Nos
Phillipé have been improvising and experimenting with sound since 2004
with only a self-titled limited edition CD-R to show for their efforts to
date. This release marks the group’s first real solid sonic statement. ‘Shh..
Camille’ begins by taking the listener through a maze of murky brooding
sub-base rumblings and detailed textures before settling at what could be
described as the second phase of the piece, in which layers of dense
drones begin to merge with abrasive tones to conjure a visceral and
claustrophobic sound environment. Utilising only primitive audio cleaning
software, Nos
Phillipé process field recordings to create rich and intense sound
structures onto which they then apply their electro-acoustic
improvisations. These sounds are primarily generated by electric guitar,
viola, turn table, ebow, FX pedals, found objects and processed field
recordings. The group’s name was inspired by an eccentric acquaintance of
Hopps and Webb. An individual who bares uncanny facial similarities to
both the Hollywood actor Ryan Phillippe and Nosferatu Phantom der Nacht
